Victoria + Jean Crowned Winner of Indie Week Europe 2015
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(June 2, 2015 – MANCHESTER) Indie Week launched its Europe edition of the music festival last week in Manchester, a city rich in music history and independent spirit. After five days of showcasing top indie musicians, Indie Week Europe wrapped up its run at the Ruby Lounge, Sunday night, with incredible performances from the top six bands. Swedish duo Victoria + Jean came out victorious, winning the grand prize of a trip to Toronto to headline Indie Week Canada 2015, October 14-18, in Toronto.
“All the bands I saw during the finals were great, but Victoria + Jean showed confidence mixed with a certain rock ‘n’ roll swagger that grabbed the audience’s attention as well as the judges.” Says Indie Week Founder and Managing Director, Darryl Hurs. “Throughout the festival there was a buzz around this band and I am looking forward to bringing them to Canada!”
The jurors; Mike Joyce (The Smiths), Chris Birkett(Sinead O’Connor, Def Leppard, Steve Earle), Stefanie Purifcati (The Agency Group) and John Robb (Louderthanwar, Goldblade, The Membranes) were blown away by the level of talent the top six bands brought to the competitions.
Indie Week Europe took place May 27-31 at 10 venues around the north quarter. Indie Week Europe, inspired by Manchester’s pioneering atmosphere (where The Smiths, Oasis, The Inspiral Carpets, The Charlatans, Joy Division and Factory Records all came to be) fostered new talent with industry panels presented by Indie101 at SSR Manchester featuring a keynote speech from Mike Joyce of The Smiths, master classes with Sinead O”Connor producer, Chris Birkett and various panels by music industry insiders.
